Where The White Lotus was filmed on Koh Samui

The show put Samui in front of a new audience. Here is where it was filmed, and how to use that interest in a group program.

The White Lotus season 3 used Koh Samui as a filming base, and the island's resorts gave the fictional White Lotus property its look. The Four Seasons Koh Samui stood in for the resort itself. Anantara Bophut and Anantara Lawana supplied other parts of the set. For planners, this gives a recognizable reference point for groups that know the show. It does not replace a program design.

HBO's third season aired in 2025 and was shot across several Thai locations. This note covers which Samui properties appeared, what that means for group demand, and how to use the connection without building a program around a screenshot.

Which properties appeared on screen

The Samui filming split across three properties. Each supplied different parts of the fictional resort. Other scenes were shot in Phuket and Bangkok, so Samui is one location among several, though it carried the resort itself.

PropertyRole in the production
Four Seasons Koh SamuiThe White Lotus resort, including the pool villas, main pool and restaurant scenes
Anantara Bophut Koh SamuiThe Thai-style lobby, security station, staff car park, jewelry shop and tree-lined entrance
Anantara Lawana Koh Samui, ChawengThe resort bar scenes, shot at the Singing Bird Lounge, a treehouse-style bar in a large old tree

Two points follow from this. First, the fictional resort was assembled from more than one real property. No single hotel on Samui matches everything viewers saw. Second, the properties sit in different parts of the island. Bophut and Chaweng are on the north and east coasts, and the Four Seasons is on the northwest. A group that wants to see all three needs a planned route.

What the show changed about interest in Samui

The show gave Samui a large new audience among European and Australian travelers, two of the island's established source markets. Before the season aired, many of those travelers knew Phuket and Bangkok well and Samui less so. A major HBO series that features Samui resorts changes that familiarity.

We do not have measured conversion figures to share, and we would distrust anyone who quotes a precise lift. What planners can reasonably assume is this:

  • Participants from Europe and Australia are more likely to recognize the island's name and some of its resorts.
  • Some will ask about the filming locations during the program, whether or not the brief mentions them.
  • Interest usually concentrates on the Four Seasons, since it stood in for the resort itself.

For an agency pitching Samui to a client, that recognition helps. A destination the group already has a picture of is easier to sell internally than one that needs explaining. The same recognition can also inflate expectations. Participants who arrive expecting the show will compare the real property to what they remember. Brief them early on what is accessible and what is off limits.

Filming-location tourism versus a considered group program

Filming-location tourism organizes a trip around finding specific places from a screen. A considered group program organizes the trip around the group's objectives and uses the filming connection as one element. The two lead to different itineraries, budgets and risks.

Typical activityPhoto stops, bar visits, walk-throughsStructured sessions, curated dining, shared experiences
AccessDepends on what each property allows non-guests to seeArranged in advance with the property
RiskThin content once the photos are takenLower, because the filming link is one layer among several
Best forFan groups, small private partiesIncentive travel, executive retreats, VIP trips

Access is the practical constraint. Resorts are working hotels. Areas used for filming, such as pool villas and staff areas, are not open to visitors because they appeared on television. Staff car parks, security stations and back-of-house spaces will not be part of any guest program. Do not promise a group a walk through them.

A bar or restaurant open to guests is different. The Singing Bird Lounge at Anantara Lawana is a working bar, and an evening there can be booked like any hospitality venue, subject to the property's own capacity and rules. We confirm access with each property directly before it goes into a proposal.

How to build on it for a group

The simplest approach is to base the group at the Four Seasons Koh Samui and let the connection show up naturally. A stay there puts participants in the property that stood in for the White Lotus resort, including the pool and villa setting. No itinerary gymnastics are needed.

A second option is a sunset dinner at Koh Thai Kitchen, the hilltop Thai restaurant at the Four Seasons, which is recognized in the Michelin Guide. This works for groups staying elsewhere on the island. It adds a recognized dining reference to the program, and the Thai menu gives the evening content of its own. Plan the timing around sunset, since the view is part of the draw, and confirm group seating well ahead. A restaurant of this kind has limits on how many guests it can seat at once and whether a full buyout is possible.

A workable structure for a three to four night program looks like this:

  1. Arrival day at the base property, with a welcome session by the pool.
  2. A working day, either a meeting block or an activity day, kept separate from the filming theme.
  3. A sunset dinner at Koh Thai Kitchen as the featured evening.
  4. An optional evening at the Singing Bird Lounge for a smaller sub-group, with a transfer planned between Chaweng and the other properties.

Keep the filming element to one or two touchpoints. Beyond that, the program starts to feel like a tour. For incentive programs, which commonly run USD 150K to 400K in total, the venue connection should sit alongside the rewards, recognition moments and activities the client designed the trip around.

Group size and logistics

Travel between properties on Samui takes real time. The island's ring road is a single main route, and transfers between the north and east coasts can run 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. Build that into the schedule. For groups above 30, we plan multiple coaches and stagger departures for restaurant evenings so that arrivals do not bunch up at the venue.

Availability pressure at the Four Seasons

Expect tighter availability at the Four Seasons in peak months. Samui's high season runs roughly December through March, with a second busy period in July and August around European and Australian school holidays. A property with new screen visibility and a limited number of villas will fill early in those windows.

Practical guidance for planners:

  • Request holds six to nine months ahead for peak dates, and earlier for groups that need a large share of the villa inventory.
  • Keep flexible alternatives. The island's other partner properties, including Conrad Koh Samui, Six Senses Samui, Banyan Tree Samui, W Koh Samui and Le Méridien Koh Samui, can host the group while a dinner or day visit at the Four Seasons keeps the connection.
  • Shoulder months give more room. April to June and September to November are quieter, though weather is less predictable, particularly in the final months of the year when rain is more likely.
  • A full buyout of a property this size is a different negotiation from a block of rooms. Raise it early.

If the Four Seasons cannot take the whole group, splitting the program is a sound fallback. Stay at another property, then book a Four Seasons dinner and a daytime visit. The group gets the reference without the inventory risk.
